Welcome to the Y5/6CB class page
This page will keep you up to date with what the class will be learning about throughout the year as well as celebrating some of their achievements or successes.
During the Spring term, the children have learnt a lot in Science about classifying organisms and light. In Art, they have looked at Monet and the Impressionists. Topic this term has looked at France and the UK. Computing focused on typing, programming and internet safety. In P.E. the children had a go at Tag Rugby and Gymnastics. Below are some posters designed by some of the class about what they have learnt.
Science - Light
After the February Half Term break, the children are learning about light. They have been busy reflecting Alien Death-rays around an obstacle at Planet Earth and have tested various objects in the classroom to discover is they are opaque, translucent or transparent.
This term the children have been learning about World War 1. The children have learnt about how the War began and will see how it affected the lives of local people, such as Noel Chavasse (1 of only 3 people who were awarded the Victoria Cross twice). In PE they have been choreographing a dance to show a personal journey through the War, from conscription, through packing, saying farewell to marching to battle.
Trip to Museum of Liverpool
The children were treated to an exciting day of activities at the Museum of Liverpool and Liverpool Maritime Museum where they learnt all about life during World War 1, the Lusitania and how to use the skills of a historian.
Design and Technology
In D.T., the children have looked at a variety of materials, stitches and threads and have even had a go at making their own purse!
At the end of each half term, our class competes against Mr Moore's class to build on team work and tactical thinking. There have been some very close matches of bench ball and dodge ball so far this year!
Meeting Tranmere Rovers
The children were excited by the visit of two players from Tranmere Rovers. They asked all sorts of questions, learning about how the players train, their feelings on match days and any tips for success they might have.
In this area, we will share the children's art work throughout the year. In the Autumn, year 5 studied pencil drawings and our class looked at collage. In the Spring term, it was Monet and the impressionists.
